A lunar base, if done correctly, would be very exciting, historic, and could naturally transition to a sustainable settlement. It would be cheaper, earlier, and safer than a Martian base. It would be both inspirational and a back-up for humanity.
Establishing humanity's first permanent foothold off Earth as soon as possible.
Doug Plata is a physician and space advocate in Redlands, CA. He founded the Lunar COTS petition calling for the cost-effective development of the Moon including humanity's first, permanent foothold off Earth. he founded the Space Development Group and is working to establish a Moon-Mars Analogue Base (MMAB) in Tucson, AZ.
The Moon-Mars Analogue Base (MMAB) in Tucson would develop parallel to other analogue bases. Using a different approach, the various analogue bases could learn from each other. I would be happy to discuss and freely share developments.
